Description: Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) scholarships are awarded to students of exceptional research potential undertaking a Higher Degree by Research (HDR). APAs are provided to assist with general living costs. Part-time APAs may only be awarded under exceptional circumstances which relate to the applicant having significant caring commitments or a medical condition.

Eligibility: The awards are open to Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and New Zealand citizens, who hold a bachelor degree with Honours class I or IIA or an equivalent qualification. Applicants must be undertaking research doctorate studies. Applicants cannot: previously have held an Australian Government Research Scholarship for more than six months; be in receipt of an equivalent award (greater than 75 per cent of the base stipend); or have completed a degree at the same level as that proposed. Research must be undertaken in one of Swinburne's nominated areas: Advanced Computing and Modelling; Advanced Industrial Technologies; Astrophysics; Brain Function and Cognition; Entrepreneurship; Environment and Biotechnology; Human Centred Convergent Communications; Photonics and Applied Laser Technology; Social Sustainability and Well-being.
