Description: The Coal & Allied Community Development Fund has funded scholarships for students of the University of Newcastle since 2006 as part of its commitment to supporting education pathways and access to tertiary education for commencing students from communities in Maitland, Cessnock, Singleton, Muswellbrook and the Upper Hunter Local Government Areas. In 2013, Coal & Allied extended its program to provide scholarships and awards to continuing students. This award for third-year students aims to support and recognise the community participation and leadership capacity of ongoing Coal & Allied Scholars and acknowledge the role that students can play in promoting education and mentoring fellow students.

Eligibility: Applicants must: have been a recipient of the Coal & Allied Hunter Scholarship for 2nd Year Students in the year preceding the award of this scholarship (some exceptions may apply); be Australian citizens or permanent residents; and be full-time continuing students enrolled in the 3rd year of an undergraduate program in Engineering, Nursing, Medicine, Education, Social Work or Science (Environmental or Geology).
