University Overview
RMIT University, which is officially known as the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, was established in 1887 and has its main campus at Melbourne, Victoria. RMIT also has two other campuses and three sites in Australia, one site in Spain, and two campuses in Vietnam. The university's motto, perita manus mens exculta, can be translated as askilled hand, a cultivated mind. RMIT is best known for its focus on technology and design. The school has programs of study under 23 schools across three academic colleges. Undergraduate
In RMIT University,undergraduate students can choose a program under 12 broad areas of interest by opting to take up an honours degree, bachelor degree, associate degree, or higher education diploma depending on their goals and preferred time to completion, which ranges from one up to four years of full-time study.
To ensure that undergraduate students learn to balance theory and practice, RMIT has forged partnerships with numerous top organisations,such as BMW, Deloitte, Adidas, and L'Oreal.This approach helps students gain industry experience and work-ready skills that are directly applicable to any industry.Students even have a chance to spend anywhere from a short-term tour to afull semester overseas.
Postgraduate
RMIT's postgraduate programs equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to gain a competitive edge in their careers. Most postgraduate programs follow a structured approach that integrates lectures, seminars, and discussion groups into each course. Given the university's focus on research, significant research components and/or dissertations are tied into most programs.
In line with this, the School of Graduate Research trains students to deliver non-traditional outputs and immerses them in actual research activities that impact the community through RMIT's strong industry links. The school ensures that candidates are provided with guidance and support from admission to examination. Eligible students can also apply for research scholarships covering two years of full-time study for masters by research and four years for doctorate by research.
Study Online
RMIT University has a strong partnership with Open Universities Australia (OUA), which means that students can choose to engage in one or a combination of study modes, with materials in print, CD-ROM, online, or a combination of print and online.
Through this partnership with OUA, lessons are delivered using learning tools and resources that are specially designed to support student learning. An example is the Blackboard tool, which is accessible through myRMIT and provides a system through which students receive course announcements and content, as well as participate in discussions and activities, take examinations, submit assignments, and receive grades and comments.
International Students
Being a university that is globally recognized for many of its programs, RMIT opens its doors and reaches out to international students by visiting several countries throughout the year to discuss attractive education pathways that can help them achieve their goals. RMIT schedules visits to the Philippines, Myanmar, China, and Switzerland, aside from having a wide network of registered agents in other countries around the world to ensure that prospective students can obtain all the information they need about studying in RMIT.
International student scholarships are also given to those who are eligible, and these students can choose from more than 500 programs at different levels of study. Along with this, RMIT ensures the well-being of overseas students through various support programs. From the time of arrival, the Mates at RMIT program pairs international students with local students who can provide friendly support while adjusting to life on campus. During the course of study, student well-being advisors are also at hand to attend to any needs or concerns, and the English Ready Centre supports language learning through free lessons, workshops, and activities.

RMIT University tuition fees vary depending on student status and the course being undertaken. International students are generally required to pay the full fee for undergraduate study while both local and undergraduate students can be required to pay the full fee for postgraduate study. Scholarships
RMIT University has a commitment to enriching the lives of students and consequently contributing to the development of communities by awarding more than 2,000 scholarships each year for a variety of study levels. These scholarships can be classified as academic achievement, equity, aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, travel, and research scholarships. Collectively, these scholarships are worth millions of dollars and are meant to cover the majority of study-related costs. Students can apply for any of these scholarships by providing the necessary supporting documentation and committing to full-time study at a Melbourne campus for a program that lasts for at least a year.
Aside from internal scholarships, a large number of external scholarships are also available to deserving students. These scholarships have different eligibility criteria, so it is important that students carefully go over the requirements and confirm that they are eligible before applying.
University Life
RMIT University fosters a culture of involvement. The school realizes that university life would not be complete if not complemented by social, cultural, sporting, and recreation activities.
